Making inference

Reflection:
We have been learning to make and justify inferences.
I am getting better at looking for clues and then using the clues to justify my answer about what I think.

I will continue to practice making inferences when I read more difficult texts.  This way I will get better at it.

Narrative Poem

                  My Dog

There was once a dog.
Who lived in a cog.

He ate so little food.
That he chewed and chewed.

He barks so hard.
In the backyard.

At dinner.
He gets thinner.

When he gets excited.
He feels united.

After he licks.
He kicks the bricks.

When he sees fish and chips.
He licks his lips.

His tail wags so much.
Especially when someone has fudge.

When I open the door.
He bounces on the floor.

Even though he gets into all the pie.
He is the apple of my eye.

I got a lot better at making rhymes but I need to work on making make sense.

My next step is to make a story not just describing the object.

Place Value Partitioning.

I have been learning to do place value partitioning.  I found it tricky to work from left to right when the left digit was bigger.
I feel that next time I need to work with bigger numbers.
It was easy to work out the answer by showing my working.

Making Inferences

I have been learning to make and justify inferences.
I got a lot better at reading between the lines.
I found out how to find the author's message in a text.  I still wonder if I could have worked a little harder on reading between the lines.

Nonsense Poem

Here is the news
about some shoes.
About some shoes
that’s the news.
Super solid soles
splish and splash in holes.

I tie and tie
while my shoes dry.

Curious toes
with the soles.

Lot’s of thumps
when on the bumps.

My sneakers thump
while I run and jump.

My Velcro shoes
have the blues.

That was the news
about the shoes
about the shoes
that was the news.

Statistics

Reflection:  We have been learning about Statistics and collecting data.  Something I enjoyed was asking others what their favorite subject is. Something I found tricky was thinking of different subjects to choose from.  Next time I will keep track of who I already collected data from.

Mokomoko

Refection:  We have been learning about Lizards because we are looking after the lizard garden in our school.  Something I enjoyed was cleaning up the lizard garden.  Something I found tricky was picking out the most information in the mokomoko fact sheet.  Next I will remember to use a glove while gardening to protect my hands.

Summarising

We have been learning to summarize by finding the main ideas in a text.
The diagram above shows how we identified the main ideas. Something I enjoyed was finding the clues. Something I found tricky was summarising in a short version. I will keep practising how to summarise.

Dear Mum and Dad,

I can hear happy people chattering and laughing.  The waves are splashing at my feet.  I can see golden sand that feels like sugar.  There is lots of lush grass tickling my feet. The sky is blueberry blue. I can smell the salty sea and the fresh breeze in the air. The water tastes salty. The sun is lemon yellow and boiling hot. I see lots of people splashing in the warm water. The road is cement grey and a little bit warm on my toes.

Where am I?

Reflection:  We have been learning to describe a setting by using our senses.
I enjoyed finding words that describes the sight. I found it tricky to make interesting  sentences.  Next time I will add more detail to my sentences.
